DESERVE has launched a special issue entitled "Environmental changes and hazards in the Dead Sea region". The special issue is jointly organized between Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (NHESS), Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics (ACP), Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS), and Solid Earth (SE).

The objective of the special issue is to compile research and recent advances on the atmospheric, hydrological, and geophysical processes and dynamics in the Dead Sea region in order to put the Dead Sea research in an international context, and to demonstrate the transfer potential of the studies for an international readership. Manuscripts to be included in the special issue could address the processes of sinkhole genesis, groundwater recharge and movement, flash flooding as well as seismic or severe meteorological events and could include topics such as the quantification of the water budget components. In addition, the special issue intends to include contributions dealing with aspects of assessing related risk (or its main components like hazard, exposure and vulnerability) as well as studies aiming at indicating how research could assist in efficient risk mitigation, remediation strategies as well as to an efficient implementation of early warning systems.
